5 reasons to stick with your GPS unit over your smartphone

by GPS4US 2014-03-04 16:22

USA Today, you’ve warmed our hearts.

In a piece that we couldn’t agree with more, USA Today lists five reasons why standalone GPS units make
sense over smartphone GPS.

Even as the standalone GPS market has dwindled a bit to accommodate smartphone devices, there’s just
something more comforting about having a unit devoted solely to getting you where you want to go.

At the end of the article, USA Today suggests checking out the Garmin nuvi 66LMT which, wouldn’t you
know it, we happen to have for only $209.99.

So, here are the five reasons USA Today suggests a standalone GPS unit:

1.    Battery life – while you’re running your GPS on your smartphone, you’re draining your battery so
you won’t be able to do other things later. What happens if you get lost and your battery is almost
dead? That wouldn’t be good.

2.    Multitasking – Ever get a call while you’re trying to figure out where that next turn is? It kind
of screws up everything you’re trying to do. Well, that doesn’t happen on a Garmin. Why? Because you
didn’t buy the Garmin to gab with your friends. You bought the Garmin to get you where you’re going.
And it will. That’s the only thing it cares about.

3.    Bigger screen – Yeah you got that smartphone with the biggest screen available. But that pales in
comparison to the 5.4-inch screen on your nuvi 66LMT.

4.    Servicing issues – If your smartphone breaks, you’re out a phone and your GPS guidance until it’s
repaired. If your GPS breaks, you still have your smartphone while it gets fixed. See how that works?

5.    GPS is lendable – Let your significant other borrow your GPS unit. It makes good sense. Plus, when
you’re out of the country, you won’t have to worry about those expensive roaming charges.
