China to track state-owned vehicles with GPS

by GPS4US 2013-10-14 15:58

Last week we reported that the state of New Jersey is considering installing GPS trackers on government-owned vehicles.

If you thought that would be a big undertaking, well you ain’t seen nothing yet. The Chinese government – yep, the most populous country in the world – is going to do the same to all of its state-owned vehicles in an effort to crack down on employees using the vehicles for personal affairs.

The Communist Party’s Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, according to Reuters, estimates that almost 200,000 government vehicles were being misused.

President Xi Jinping has vowed to go after “tigers” and “flies” to clean up government corruption. So it’s no surprise he wants to clean up misuse of government assets. The Chinese government spends between 70-80 billion Yuan, or between $11.1 and 12.7 billion, each year on state-owned vehicles.
