Colorado’s Steamboat Springs to ad GPS units to bus fleet

by GPS4US 2013-07-30 17:37

Skiers, snowboarders and residents of Steamboat Springs, Colo., your bus may be late, but at least you’ll know how late, starting this fall.

The Rocky Mountain town has allocated about $82,000 to install GPS units in each of its 20 public buses. The trackers, of course, will show real-time locations, which can be seen on computers or smartphones.

This is especially good news to Steamboat Springs’ winter residents and visitors. People previously stranded in the cold weather, waiting for their late-arriving bus, can now plan accordingly. Perhaps a cup of coffee while you wait?

Steamboat Springs is just one of many municipalities that are attaching GPS units to their buses to keep a tighter schedule. About $65,000 of the project’s cost is being funded by state grants generated from increasing state vehicle registration fees.
