Cyclist ends up on freeway, blamed smartphone GPS

by GPS4US 2014-02-27 10:28

The thing about GPS is that it works best with a little bit of common sense.

It also works best for cyclists who understand that driving directions might not be their best option.

A cyclist in England is blaming his smartphone GPS for taking him onto a busy London freeway. The man
told police he was looking for a short cut home. Luckily police stopped him before he or anyone else
was injured. The man was issued a fine and police helped him exit the freeways safely.

But we have to ask, what was he thinking in the moments directly before he decided to enter the
freeway? Is it possible he wasn’t thinking at all?

We’re happy that we can report this as a funny story of dumb cyclist gone wrong, instead of a sad story
about the perils of casually obeying directions no matter what. Still, if you’re going to bike home, do
it with the Garmin Edge Touring or Edge Touring Plus.  Unlike your smartphone, they’re made for this
sort of thing.
