GPS may be a man’s new best friend

by GPS4US 2013-11-12 14:36

And now GPS technology is improving the way men get basic health checks.

Is there anything GPS can’t do?

Yep, you’ve used it for driving and hiking and walking and running. You’ve trained with it, and maybe
even used it for keeping track of your animals.

But doctors in Pennsylvania are using GPS technology to help make colonoscopies easier on themselves
and patients. The program creates three dimensional, real-time images of the colonoscope inside a
patient.

The technology helps prevent looping, which uncomfortably stretches out the colon, It also maps polyps
and lesions.

"That'll help the surgeon, during his surgery, locate the lesion more efficiently,” Dr. Stephen
Lichtenstein – of Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital – tells 6ABC.com. “That'll help me if I have to go back in
again in a year, to know exactly where that was."

The technology also shortens the total time of the colonoscopy.

Pretty amazing how GPS is creeping into modern medicine practices.
