Garmin’s new D2 watch takes aviation to new heights

by GPS4US 2013-10-08 16:05

If you fly a plane, Garmin has some big news for you.

The GPS giant announced Tuesday the release of the D2, a premium GPS watch designed specifically for aviators.

“In addition to the ability to provide global navigation solutions right on your wrist, D2’s seamless integration with other Garmin products makes it an essential piece of equipment for every cockpit,” said Carl Wolf, Garmin’s vice president of aviation sales and marketing. “D2 is as rich in style as it is in features and with the wealth of information it provides, every pilot will want one.”

The D2 gives you Garmin’s signature direct-to and nearest navigation abilities, and a built-in altimeter with adjustable baro settings, altitude alerting, display of local and Zulu/UTC time and seamless integration with the Garmin Pilot app and the VIRB action camera.

The D2 gives aviators a worldwide aviation database. And you can easily create flyover waypoints of your current location. Pilots can also load flight plans and assign customized data fields to display GPS ground speed, GPS track, distance, estimated time en route, glide ration and bearing. Altitude alerting lets you know when you’ve reached your preselected altitude.

The D2 also features a built-in WAAS GPS, compass with an HSI and a moving map page. You can set up vibrating alerts so you’re reminded of important tasks like switching fuel tanks.

The D2 will be available in November.
