by gps4us news 2012-05-07 14:22

Maker of Emergency Positioning Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRBs),  Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs), Search and Rescue Transponders (SARTs) and other emergency devices McMurdo announced a launch of their new product, Fast Find Ranger PLB.

The new device will be available from May 31st, 2012 and is marketed to outdoor enthusiasts who venture out into the wild where other means of communicating a distress signal may be unavailable.

Its GPS standard allows pinpointing position with accuracy of +/- 62 meters by using a 406MHz search and rescue satellite communication system COSPAS SARSAT, a multi-national system specifically developed in 1980s to provide emergency assistance. Information provided by COSPAS SARSAT is said to have saved over two thousand people in 2010.

Fast Find Ranger is promising to deliver additional peace of mind to an adventurer caught in the wild. It can operate it temperatures as cold as minus 4 degrees Fahrenheit (oF), and transmit at 5 watt output for a minimum of 24 hours.
