Trimble and Spime - Synergy in the GPS world.

by gps4us news 2012-06-07 13:13

CEO of Spime, a Newark, CA based company that specializes in GPS software platforms, navigation service and map service (Northstar Nav and Northstar Map), announced today that Spime is now a Trimble company.

Trimble is a multi billion public company with headquarters in Sunnyvale, CA. It has been developing GPS technology for military, commercial and consumer use since 1978. It primarily makes GPS hardware for government, construction, surveying and military. Trimble’s wide spectrum of products ranges from 3-D laser scanners to GPS chipsets and embeddable GPS antennas.

Acquisition of Spime may enable Trimble to boost its mobile business that currently is fairly small by integrating Spime’s software offerings with Trimble’s own hardware.

Spime’s software is widely used by many manufacturers and mobile operators. Nokia uses Spime’s GPS technology for Navteq.
