Cops use car GPS to nab drive-by suspect

by GPS4US 2013-08-07 15:14

Crime happens. It’s just a fact of society. But GPS units are continuously giving police an upper hand in bringing criminals to justice.

The latest example comes from Providence, R.I., where police say a GPS unit in a rental car helped them track down a suspect in a recent drive-by shooting.

Police arrested 22-year old Antoin Pitters in a convenience store parking lot about 30 minutes after the shooting. A witness took note of the car’s license plate number as it sped away, giving the cops the ability to use GPS tracking to find the suspect.

Pitters was arrested at gunpoint and charged with having a loaded firearm inside a vehicle and carrying a pistol without a license, according to the Providence Journal.

Crime may be an unfortunate part of our world but, as we can see in Providence, GPS tracking is giving law enforcement one more tool to catch bad guys.
