Driver blames GPS for river plunge

by GPS4US 2014-05-27 11:59

Again, GPS isn’t a person. Even if you think it is an intelligent being, the truth is that the voice
telling you to turn left ahead is actually a recording. Not a real person.

So GPS isn’t about blind faith, as much as it is telling you the quickest route from Point A to Point
B. Sometimes other stuff gets in the way. And when other stuff gets in the way, find another way. As
much as you fight it, people are actually smarter than GPS.

So a West Virginia man is blaming his GPS unit for driving his car into a Pennsylvania river at 11 p.m.
last week. His GPS told him there would be a road across the Susquehanna River. But, saying it was dark
and he didn’t notice road signs warning him, the man drove his car into the river when the road ended.

GPS is great, but it’s not perfect. Luckily, the man was able to swim across the river in 40-degree
water. However, his car still sits at the bottom of the mighty Susquehanna. Apparently, there used to
be a ferry crossing the river, but that service stopped several years ago.

This is the second time this year a driver has blamed GPS for taking him across the Susquehanna. In
January, a man was, luckily, able to drive across the iced-over river.
