GPS tracker tracks down thieves

by GPS4US 2013-07-15 17:11
Stories like this tend to make our day.

It proves that, not only can your GPS unit help make sure you don’t get lost, it can also help stymie would-be thieves who steal your stuff.

Take the case of a hero from Fort Mill, S.C., who hid his GPS tracker inside building materials he was using for a construction project. Well, last week, a pair of Charlotte, N.C., men allegedly tried to steal those materials. And when the man saw through his smartphone app that the GPS was on the move, he notified police, who tracked the signal and found eight rolls of rain barrier roofing material, 30 bundles of roofing shingles and a collection of vents inside the suspect’s Ford truck, according to the Fort Mill Times.

Oh, and the cops found the GPS tracker, too.

In the end, the two men were charged with grand larceny and criminal conspiracy. And the man smart enough to use his GPS unit as an anti-theft device was able to go back to work without missing a beat.
