Garmin’s new tactix watch aimed at law enforcement

by GPS4US 2013-10-22 16:16

Recently, Garmin’s new products have targeted cyclists, bikers, and adventure-seekers.

But their newest smart watch was designed specially for law enforcement.

Garmin Tuesday announced the tactix, a matte black wristwatch that, according to the company, is inspired by the requirements of law enforcement and police special operations. The tactix is field-ready and can run up to 50 hours on just one charge.

Users also get an altimeter, 3-axis compass and extensive training tools. The tactix is waterproof to 50 meters, and US versions come preloaded with tide data. Its Jumpmaster software “could prove invaluable for amphibious and airborne operations,” Garmin said in a statement. It also comes with a curved lens and green backlight, so it is visible with night-vision devices and won’t give away the user’s location.

“Being able to go hands free while still having access to accurate information on barometric pressure, elevation, and GPS position could prove to be invaluable in the field,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales. “tactix packs Garmin’s trusted navigation technology into a GPS watch that both soldiers and civilians can rely on. Plus, the preloaded tide data and Jumpmaster software, along with its stealth design, really sets tactix apart from other wrist worn GPS devices.”

The tactix allows users to create routes, plan trips and record up to 1,000 waypoints. It also features a high-sensitive GPS receiver that lets users leave bread crumb trails. It also comes preloaded with a worldwide basemap and as both Bluetooth and ANT+ technology for wireless sharing.

As if that wasn’t enough, you can also use tactix as a remote control for your VIRB or VIRB Elite action camera. Oh, and it also works as a regular watch.

Garmin said the tactix will be out sometime this fall, in time for the holidays.
