Garmin announces new Head-Up Display

by GPS4US 2013-07-10 15:00
Garmin’s newest product will make you safer when you drive. How? By taking your eyes off of your GPS unit and keeping them on the road.

The company announced Monday its first portable Head-Up Display GPS (HUD), which projects information directly onto your windshield.

The HUD rests on your dash and projects turn-by-turn navigation onto a thin transparent film attached to your windshield or onto an attached reflector lens.

HUD receives navigation information from Bluetooth-enabled smartphones running Android, IOS or Windows 8 that are connected to the Garmin StreetPilot or NAVIGON apps.

The technology often comes in high-end autos, but Garmin is now bringing it to the average consumer.

“HUD redefines the navigation experience by allowing drivers to find their way without taking their eyes off the road,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales. “Head-up displays currently have their place in select high-end cars, but HUD makes this technology available as an aftermarket accessory for any vehicle, at an affordable price.”

Though the display is clean and crisp, HUD shows users lots of pertinent information. In addition to navigation, you’ll see your distance to the next turn, current speed and speed limit and estimated time of arrival. HUD also lets you know which lane you should be in to navigate turns and interchanges, and warns of traffic delays and upcoming safety cameras.
