Important Highway Information

by diane 2010-05-27 16:43

Carroll, Iowa – A Lincoln Highway Heritage Byway will have a GPS training session on June 10.

Considering the Iowa’s Byways through GIS Technology project, GPS volunteers will travel along the Lincoln Highway over the next year with the intention to collect GPS data used in generating GIS information layers.

An easy to use GPS unit will be provided. Volunteers provide their own vehicles and will document time and mileage.

GPS data to be collected includes traveler services such as the location of restrooms, parks, and gas stations. Byway data to be collected will include cultural, historic, and scenic resources.

Volunteers are needed for Greene, Carroll, and Crawford counties.

Topics to be covered at the stakeholder meeting include new byway signage, the new Iowa Byways Web site, upcoming events, photo database and other project updates.
