India launches second satellite for INRSS, its version of GPS

by GPS4US 2014-04-21 09:54

Space is a pretty big place.

That’s good, because there are a lot of global positioning satellites up there. Especially since April
4, when India launched the second satellite in its navigation system.

So, China and England has their navigation systems. The United States has GPS, and Russia has GLONASS.
Now India joins the orbiting party with the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS).

The 7-satellite IRNSS will be finished in 2016. The first satellite went into orbit on July 1 last
year. The finished product will benefit India’s 1 billion people, and offer defense, security and
counterterrorism operations.

Its positioning will be better than within 20 meters.

Space. It’s crazy up there.
