New Jersey’s GPS use pays off

by GPS4US 2014-05-06 11:47

A new GPS system to monitor fraud and waste is paying dividends for the state of New Jersey.

The state recently first three transit workers and disciplined seven others for various violations that
they caught with the new system.

New Jersey Transit last year installed GPS units on 480 vehicles to track employee productivity and
behavior. Since installing the GPS, the agency has seen a dramatic drop in fleet use. The amount of
hours has decreased by 40 percent, while the amount of gas used dropped by 31 percent.

The total cost of the GPS installation was $500,000.

The 10 disciplined employees were caught driving government vehicles for personal use.
