Slow down! GPS units make roads, busses safer in Sri Lanka

by GPS4US 2013-06-28 17:11
After countless complaints of reckless drivers and recognizing a need to track schedules, Sri Lanka’s national Transport Commission (NTC) has outfitted 585 inter-provincial private busses with GPS devices.

The pilot program uses GPS units to track buses that travel long distances, and an NTC official will monitor the date to expose drivers who don’t follow traffic laws. The NRC has received complaints of speeding and missed stops, but it will also be looking for buses that drive too slow.

The NTC will also use GPS to examine how long busses spend at each stop.

In an effort to increase safety for commuters and punctuality for the busses, the NTC hopes to install the GPS units in all buses.
